Authentication setup​

The Google Tasks API only accepts OAuth 2.0 user credentials (it does not support API keys). The connector supports two authentication options:

  • Authenticate via Google (OAuth) (recommended): provide a Google OAuth 2.0 Client ID, Client Secret and Refresh Token. The connector exchanges the refresh token for a new access token at the start of every sync, so scheduled syncs keep working.
  • Access Token: a raw Google OAuth 2.0 access token. Google access tokens expire after about one hour, so this option is only suitable for one-off tests.

Connections created before version 0.0.71 used a single api_key field holding an access token; such configurations are migrated automatically to the Access Token option. Because that token has long expired, edit the source and switch to the Authenticate via Google (OAuth) option to resume syncing.

Obtaining OAuth credentials​

  • Visit google cloud https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/api/tasks.googleapis.com/metrics and enable the Tasks API service
  • Go to the consent screen https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials/consent and add your email as a test user
  • Visit https://console.cloud.google.com/apis/credentials and create new credentials for OAuth 2.0 and copy the client id and client secret
  • Obtain a refresh token for your account, for example with Postman:
    • Add callback url https://oauth.pstmn.io/v1/callback while creating the credentials
    • Go to the postman client and select a new tab for setting authorization to OAuth 2.0
    • Set scope as https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks.readonly
    • Set access token URL as https://oauth2.googleapis.com/token
    • Set auth URL as https://accounts.google.com/o/oauth2/v2/auth and add the advanced parameters access_type=offline and prompt=consent so a refresh token is returned
    • Click Get New Access Token and authorize via your google account
    • Copy the resulting refresh token (and the client id and client secret) into the connector configuration
